blow-up to 16mm, what about the sound?

the price for my bow-up should be around 1300$ for ten minutes with the lab i'm working with. I think i'm gonna edit the sound on pc after transfering my edited film in super-8, then send the sound on a cd or DAT and the film to the lab so they could sync it, but there's one think frightening me: i heard you talk about "first answer print", does it mean i'm gonna have to do other prints after the first result to improve it?

Be afraid, be very afraid. It all depends on the skill of the printer. Usually, you pull and answer print, look for needed density and color corrections, then do it again. Most printers can get it right by the third print. It just depends on how picky you are and how much money you want to spend. But several prints is not uncommon.

around 20 cents a foot for transfer to mag (guess, since i always get this for free), and 50 cents a foot for the sound negative (fact). times 3000 feet is $2100.

so what experiences did you have with blow-ups, did it work well, does it worth the cost? I won't be able to afford several prints, but i'm shooting B/W, so i hope there won't be color correction. Anyway, blow-ups are very expensive, don't you think shooting directly in 16mm should be better?

I wouldn't be afraid--I have seen some great 1st answer prints. Most printers have a handle on things. I could see going past the 2nd. Then you can--make as many release prints as you want. Good Luck
